Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Vice Admiral Ibok-Étè Ibas (retd.) as the sole administrator of Rivers State, following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
It was gathered that the swearing-in ceremony took place at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the State House in Abuja.
Present at the brief event were the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and the Principal Secretary to the President, Hakeem Muri-Okunola.
Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 12:48 p.m. before taking his oath of office.
The appointment comes after Tinubu, on Tuesday night, suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
The president cited escalating political tensions in the state as the reason for the emergency declaration.
With Ibas now at the helm, Rivers State is set to be governed by a sole administrator until further directives from the federal government.
