BREAKING: Tinubu Sends Fresh Ambassadorial List To Senate, Names Ex-Rivers Sole Administrator, Chioma Ohakim, Dambazau, Ita Enang
Their inclusion comes as a surprise, as none of the four appeared in the earlier batch of nominees released by the Presidency.
Abuja, Nigeria- President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has transmitted a fresh list of non-career ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, naming Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas — the immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State and former Chief of Naval Staff — as one of the latest additions.
Also on the list are Ita Enang, former senator and presidential aide; Chioma Ohakim, ex–First Lady of Imo State; and Abdulrahman Dambazau, former Minister of Interior and retired Chief of Army Staff.
Their inclusion comes as a surprise, as none of the four appeared in the earlier batch of nominees released by the Presidency.
The new nominations were contained in a letter from President Tinubu, read on the floor of the Senate by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary.
In the correspondence, Tinubu urged the lawmakers to give the nominees “swift and favourable” consideration to allow the administration urgently fill key diplomatic postings across the world.
Akpabio subsequently referred the list to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, directing the panel to conclude screenings and submit its report within one week.
Thursday’s additions follow the President’s earlier nomination of Reno Omokri, former presidential aide; Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister; and Mahmood Yakubu, the immediate past chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as non-career ambassadors — a list that has already sparked political debate across the country.
