BREAKING: Tinubu Orders Shettima To Summon NEC Meeting On Ranching As Nation Battles Persistent Farmers–Herders Clashes
The directive, issued amid renewed tensions and violent clashes across several states, forms part of President Tinubu’s broader national security emergency plan
Abuja, Nigeria– President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to convene a crucial meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) to address the escalating farmers–herders crisis and advance discussions on the implementation of ranching as a long-term solution.
The directive, issued amid renewed tensions and violent clashes across several states, forms part of President Tinubu’s broader national security emergency plan, which prioritizes ending open grazing and modernizing Nigeria’s livestock management system.
Meanwhile, the President is pushing for swift, coordinated action from governors and key federal agencies, insisting that the NEC must “deliver workable and lasting policies” to curb the cycle of reprisals between farming communities and pastoralists.
While the approval for the meeting has been given, no official date has yet been set for the gathering of governors, ministers, and other NEC members.
