BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints Olayemi Cardoso As CBN Governor
Cardoso, an economist, assumes the role previously held in an acting capacity by Folashodun Shonubi.
President Bola Tinubu has nominated Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso to serve as the incoming Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The announcement, made via a press statement by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has endorsed Dr. Cardoso’s nomination for a five-year term as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The appointment is contingent upon approval from the Nigerian Senate, as stipulated in Section 8 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which grants the President the power to appoint the CBN Governor and Deputy Governors, subject to Senate confirmation.
Cardoso, an economist, assumes the role previously held in an acting capacity by Folashodun Shonubi.
In conjunction with Cardoso’s nomination, President Tinubu has also proposed four individuals as Deputy Governors of the CBN.
The other nominees are:
- Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro
- Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo
- Mr. Philip Ikeazor
- Dr. Bala M. Bello
