Akure, Ondo State– Suspected terrorists have attacked and set a police station ablaze, throwing residents of Ipele community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State into panic on New Year’s Day.
Afrika Eyes gathered that the attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, January 1, 2026, when armed assailants targeted the police facility, unleashing gunfire before setting the station on fire.
The assault reportedly forced many residents to flee their homes and go into hiding, as anxiety spread rapidly across the community following the violent invasion.
A video obtained by Afrika Eyes shows the police station engulfed in flames, with gunshots heard in the background. Several vehicles parked within the premises were also seen burning during the attack.
As of the time of filing this report, Afrika Eyes could not independently confirm whether any lives were lost or if there were casualties resulting from the incident.
However, some individuals believed to be police officers were later seen at the scene, inspecting the ruins of the station in the aftermath of the attack.
The Ondo State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while residents continue to express fears over the worsening security situation in the area.
