BREAKING: Bandits Open Fire On Evangelism Bus In Kwara, One Injured As Driver Escapes Ambush
The passengers were on their way to Shagbe, a community in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State
Ilorin, Kwara State– A group of armed bandits reportedly opened fire on a bus belonging to the National Congress of Evangelization, Operation Good News, along the Eruku–Obbo-Ile axis in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State on Friday evening.
A source told Afrika Eyes that the passengers were on their way to Shagbe, a community in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, when the attack occurred.
A source familiar with the incident said the assailants, suspected to be operating from the nearby forests, suddenly emerged from both sides of the road and began shooting indiscriminately at the moving bus.
“The bandits opened fire without warning. Bullets hit the vehicle several times, and one of the passengers was struck in the arm,” the source said.
The driver of the bus was said to have shown remarkable courage and presence of mind as he accelerated through the ambush, managing to escape before the attackers could force the vehicle to stop.
“If not for the driver’s quick thinking, the entire group could have been kidnapped or worse,” the source added.
One of the passengers, who sustained gunshot wounds during the attack, was later rushed to a nearby cottage hospital for urgent medical attention.
Meanwhile, residents in the Eruku–Yagba axis have repeatedly raised concerns about the growing insecurity in the area, lamenting the frequency of attacks on motorists and travellers.
The border communities between Kwara and Kogi states have become notorious for banditry, with incidents of shootings, kidnappings, and armed robberies reported almost weekly.
