BREAKING: Bandits Kidnap Two Women in Midnight Attack On Kwara Community
They reportedly fired multiple gunshots into the air to scare residents before forcing their way into homes.
Ilorin, Kwara State– Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted two women during a midnight attack on Maganiko Ndanangi community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
A source told Afrika Eyes that the heavily armed assailants invaded the quiet agrarian community in the early hours of Monday.
They reportedly fired multiple gunshots into the air to scare residents before forcing their way into homes.
However, the attackers later whisked away two women from their residence, leaving behind distraught family members.
“They came heavily armed and started shooting sporadically. Everyone was terrified and had to hide indoors. Unfortunately, they managed to take away two women from their home,” a resident told Afrika Eyes.
“We are helpless and hopeless. There was no security presence in the area to confront them. Our people are living in fear and we don’t know who is next.”
“We need urgent intervention. “Our villages are being emptied by these bandits. Every day, families are forced to relocate because of the fear of being kidnapped or killed,” the source added.
The incident has further heightened tension in Edu Local Government Area, which has witnessed recurring cases of abductions in recent months.
Residents lamented that despite repeated appeals to security agencies and the state government, there has been little to no reinforcement of security operatives in rural communities, leaving them vulnerable to attacks.
Community leaders had warned that insecurity has forced many residents across Kwara North and South to abandon their ancestral homes. Farmlands, which serve as the major source of livelihood, have also been deserted out of fear of attacks, threatening food production and local economies.
As of the time of filing this report, police authorities in Kwara State were yet to confirm the abduction.
Residents, however, are calling on the state government to deploy more security personnel to rural communities and to work with local vigilante groups to restore peace and protect lives and property.
