BREAKING: Aviation Minister Orders Withdrawal Of Criminal Complaints Against Ms. Comfort Emmanson, KWAM 1
He stated that while wrongs were committed by both passengers and airline staff in recent incidents, the authorities acted on compassionate grounds in resolving the cases.
Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has announced the withdrawal of criminal complaints against Ms. Comfort Emmanson and musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as KWAM 1, following recent incidents of unruly behavior at Nigerian airports.
In a statement released wednesday, Keyamo said consultations were held with critical stakeholders in the aviation sector over the last 48 hours, and that lessons had been learned regarding airport security protocols and public conduct.
He stated that while wrongs were committed by both passengers and airline staff in recent incidents, the authorities acted on compassionate grounds in resolving the cases.
Regarding the Ibom Airline incident on August 10, 2025, Keyamo confirmed that the complaint against Ms. Emmanson has been withdrawn.
She expressed remorse during her police statement, and arrangements are being made for her release from Kirikiri Prisons within the week.
The lifetime flying ban previously imposed by the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has also been lifted.
In the case of KWAM 1 and ValueJet, the musician’s flight ban has been reduced to one month, and the National Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will withdraw criminal complaints against him. Additionally, the licenses of ValueJet pilots Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba will be restored after a one-month mandatory professional reappraisal.
Keyamo also announced that all aviation agencies, in collaboration with other relevant government bodies, will conduct a retreat next week to retrain security personnel on managing disruptive passengers and de-escalating conflicts. Airlines will hold separate sessions to focus on staff conduct toward travelers.
