Bandits Kill Village Head, One Other In Midnight Attack On Sokoto Community
The victims were identified as 47-year-old Murtala Sa’adu, the Village Head of Sayinna, and another resident, Ibrahim Mai-Kudi. Both men reportedly died instantly after sustaining gunshot wounds.
Sokoto State- Suspected bandits have killed two residents, including a traditional leader, during a midnight attack in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The victims were identified as 47-year-old Murtala Sa’adu, the Village Head of Sayinna, and another resident, Ibrahim Mai-Kudi. Both men reportedly died instantly after sustaining gunshot wounds.
The attack occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday when armed men, believed to be members of the Lakurawa gang, stormed Sayinna, a remote settlement in the council area. Witnesses said the assailants, wielding sophisticated firearms, fired indiscriminately as they advanced into the village.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the incident, stating that the attackers later retreated into nearby bushes.
He added that troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA were swiftly deployed to the scene, where the victims were evacuated to a hospital, and patrols have since been intensified to forestall further violence.
The killing comes just days that Ado Allero, a notorious bandit kingpin once involved in peace talks in the North West, led an attack in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
In that assault, which occurred on Monday, bandits loyal to Allero killed the Hakimi of Dogon Dawa, a community’s traditional ruler, before abducting 40 worshippers from a mosque in Keta village.
