Suspected bandits have abducted a Master’s student, Hassan Saidu, of the Geography Department, at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
Saidu, who is currently on research work, was abducted alongside his family members at Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
Mallam Habibu Bobi Abdullahi, a brother of the victims, and alumnus at UDUS, said the incident happened on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.
“It was the early hours of Tuesday 1st August, 2023. Those bandits confidently entered our village, while Saidu and his uncle with some other members of his family hid themselves for protection against being captured, those bandits brought them out of the hidden places and took them away,” Mallam Habibu told Pen Press UDUS.
Mallam Habibu said the kidnappers have not contacted the family to demand ransom.
“I guess they are on transit throughout the day because all calls put through to their numbers were not reachable, and we haven’t received any call from anyone regarding them and their wellbeing,” he stated.
Mallam Habibu then sought the support of all and sundry in prayers for the release of the captives.
“All we request from everyone now is fervent prayers for their release without any harm on them,” he added.
