The impact caused the bus to burst into flames, resulting in the deaths of all 12 passengers on board
Damaturu, Yobe State – At least 12 people lost their lives in a auto crash on Tuesday night along the Baimari–Geidam Road in Yobe State.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, Livinus Yilzoom, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.
It was gathered that the incident occurred around 10:00 pm near Chelluri village when a Howo truck collided with a bus bearing the registration number BAU 124 YF.
According to Yilzoom, the impact caused the bus to burst into flames, resulting in the deaths of all 12 passengers on board.
“Preliminary investigations identified the road obstruction caused by the HOWO truck as the immediate cause of the crash, while excessive speed and overloading by the Sharan bus driver were determined as contributing factors,” Yilzoom stated.
However , he urged motorists to avoid traveling at night, particularly during the harmattan season, emphasizing that poor visibility is a leading cause of accidents during this period.
