Abia Police Demote Officer For Misconduct, Disband Anti-Cultism Unit
The Abia State Police Command has disbanded its Anti-Cultism Unit, citing concerns over alleged misconduct by its personnel.
Umuahia, Abia State- The Abia State Police Command has taken disciplinary action against a police corporal, demoting him to the rank of constable following allegations of unprofessional conduct and incivility towards the public.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday.
Chinaka revealed that the officer faced an administrative review in an orderly room trial, where he was found guilty of discreditable behavior and failing to uphold the professional standards expected of law enforcement personnel.
In a related move, the Abia State Police Command has disbanded its Anti-Cultism Unit, citing concerns over alleged misconduct by its personnel.
The statement read, “The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, in alignment with the vision of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), to establish a professionally competent, service-driven, rule-of-law-compliant, and people-friendly police force, has disbanded the Command’s Anti-Cultism Unit for Unprofessional conduct and incivility towards members of the public,” the statement read.
“Additionally, F/No: 527324 Corporal Okonkwo Ebuka, attached to Area Command, Aba, but on special duty at Isuochi was demoted from Corporal to Constable.
“The Commissioner of Police emphasized the Command’s zero-tolerance policy for any form of unprofessional conduct among officers that could tarnish the good image of the Force,” Chinaka said.
