Condemning the attack in the strongest terms, the President called on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to summon the political will necessary to tackle the longstanding communal tensions fueling the crisis.

Abuja, Nigeria President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the latest bout of bloodshed in Plateau State, where over 40 people have been killed in a wave of renewed violence.

Condemning the attack in the strongest terms, the President called on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to summon the political will necessary to tackle the longstanding communal tensions fueling the crisis.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the violence as “unacceptable” and said it was time to confront the underlying ethnic and religious tensions that have plagued the region for decades.

“The ongoing violence between communities in Plateau State, rooted in misunderstandings between different ethnic and religious groups, must cease,” President Tinubu declared.

“I have instructed security agencies to thoroughly investigate this crisis and identify those responsible for orchestrating these violent acts. We cannot allow this devastation and the tit-for-tat attacks to continue. Enough is enough.”

The President extended his condolences to Governor Mutfwang, the Plateau State government, and all those affected by the recent tragedy.

He stressed that while security agencies must act decisively against criminal perpetrators, political leadership must go beyond reactive measures.

“These problems have been with us for more than two decades. We can no longer ignore the underlying issues. It is time to tackle them fairly and find a lasting solution.”

The President revealed that he has had ongoing discussions with the Plateau State governor and has made several suggestions aimed at bringing sustainable peace to the region.

He noted that the federal government is fully committed to supporting the state’s peace-building efforts.
