Gunmen Attack Police Station In Abia, Kill Female Suspect In Bid To Free Detainees

Umuahia, Abia State- Gunmen have attacked the Police Rapid Response Squad facility in Owerrinta, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, killing a female suspect held in custody.
The attackers, reportedly arriving in three Hilux vehicles, targeted the facility along the Umuahia-Aba Federal Expressway on Monday in an attempt to free detainees, authorities say.
Abia State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, confirmed the attack, stating that police forces responded quickly to the incursion, leading to the arrest of one suspect.
“On that day, there was an attack on our facility at Owerrinta shortly after midnight,” Isa said. “The assailants arrived in about three Hilux vehicles and opened fire on our facility.”

“In their attempt to free detainees, they opened fire, tragically resulting in the death of a female suspect.
The police boss said that after the incident, they pursued the attackers using technical methods and managed to apprehend one individual.
“The police are currently questioning him to uncover other accomplices. Progress is being made,” Isa added.
