Court Remands 42-Year-Old Man For Allegedly Raping His Daughter In Ekiti
The case was adjourned to November 6 for further mention.
Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State- An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of a 42-year-old man, Christopher Israel, at the correctional centre over allegations of raping his 22-year-old daughter.
Israel faces charges of rape and assault, brought by the police. The presiding magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, declined to take Israel’s plea, citing a lack of jurisdiction to hear the case.
In her ruling, Magistrate Bamidele ordered the suspect to remain in custody at the Ado-Ekiti correctional centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The case was adjourned to November 6 for further mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Olubu Apata, informed the court that Israel committed the offense on September 21 in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that Israel raped his 22-year-old daughter, who had come to visit him, and also inflicted injuries on her during their struggle.
According to the prosecutor, this act violated Sections 265 and 256 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021. He requested that the court remand Israel while awaiting legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
