2 Killed, 7 Injured As Vigilante-Fulani Clash In Niger State

Minna, Niger State– In the recent clash between Fulani and vigilantes at Beji weekly market in Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State, two people have confirmed dead while seven others have sustained injuries.
According to residents, the incident took place at around 5 PM on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, during a time when the market was bustling at its peak capacity.
Beji, an agricultural hub hosting a significant national market for livestock and grains, sits roughly 30 kilometers away from Minna, the capital of Niger State.
The injured are presently undergoing treatment at the Primary Healthcare Centre in Beji.
Aliyu Yusuf, the Assistant Head of Medical Services at Beji Primary Healthcare Centre, has confirmed the incident, stating that nine people were brought to the hospital with varying degrees of bullet wounds.
He said that two were confirmed dead while the remaining seven victims, all Fulani, were responding to treatment.
Alhaji Umar Ahmed Rebe, the Niger State Commissioner for Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs, also confirmed the incident and cautioned against any retaliatory actions. He emphasized that the state government would convene discussions with all involved parties to seek a lasting resolution to the tensions between Fulani and Gbagyi farmers.

The Vice President, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Zone B, Abdullahi Mu’azu said the clash disrupted the activities in the market on Wednesday, calling on the authorities to intervene to ensure that the incident does not repeat itself.
