Gunmen Kidnap Businessman, Shoot Varsity Student In Nasarawa

The student was shot by the bandits and was immediately rushed to the hospital

Lafia, Nasarawa StateGunmen suspected to be kidnappers, have attacked Gandu community, about two kilometres from the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) in Nasarawa State.

It was gathered that a 300-level student from the Sociology Department of the university was shot, and a prominent businessman was abducted.

An eyewitness stated that the incident had caused fear into the hearts of the area’s residents.

“The student was shot by the bandits and was immediately rushed to the hospital where he is taking treatment. Our prayer is that he recovers fast because the situation was a serious one,” the source said.

“Our lives are no longer safe, owing to the persistent attacks and kidnapping of students, and other criminal activities in this environment.

“Our examinations are around the corner and we cannot go to class to read in the night anymore for fear of being attacked or molested by people suspected to be kidnappers.”

In response to the incident, State Governor Abdullahi Sule expressed his concern regarding the increasing insecurity in and around tertiary institutions within the state.

The governor made this statement on Tuesday when he visited the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia in the aftermath of the attack that occurred on Monday night.

In conveying his condolences to the institution’s management in light of the unfortunate incident, Governor Sule reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security measures in the vicinity of student residential areas within the state, aiming to mitigate issues of insecurity.
