NSCDC Arrests Kidnapper While Collecting Ransom In Nasarawa
The suspect agreed to all the allegations that they were responsible for the series of kidnapping and armed robbery activities in TORO
Bauchi State– The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) operating within the Bauchi State Command have arrested one Muhammad Rinji, a notorious kidnapper linked to a series of kidnappings and armed robbery incidents in the Toro Local Government Area of the state.
The State NSCDC Commandant, Ilelaboye Oyejide, on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, disclosed to the journalists at the command’s headquarters that the suspect was arrested by NSCDC personnel in Nasarawa State while in the act of collecting a ransom.
He said that due to intense security operations, kidnappers are now on the run from their enclaves at different locations, especially within Lame and other forests in Toro LGA.
“Kidnappers/bandits are on the run in the enclaves at different locations, especially within TORO forest. However, the Corps intensified efforts in its patrol and surveillance, which led to the tracking of one of the suspected kidnapper by name MUHAMMAD SANI RINJI to Nasarawa state and arrest on 15/10/2023 at the point of collecting the ransom based on credible intelligence,” he said.
“During interrogation, the suspect agreed to all the allegations that they were responsible for the series of kidnapping and armed robbery activities in TORO and beyond. He gave a vivid account of his involvement in the kidnapping activity,”
Mr Oyejide said that the suspect has been charged to court for the established offence for prosecution accordingly.
“It is worthy to note that the milestone recorded by the command would be attributed to the strategic review of the command’s operations through a robust change in the operation of our divisions and other sister security agencies and through intelligence partnership,” the commandant said.
“The command will not shy away from its constitutional mandate of protecting the lives and property of citizens in the state.”
Mr Oyejide said that the command is taking proactive measures through a robust partnership with critical stakeholders in the state.
“I want to reiterate that all complaints should be reported to our command headquarters or the nearest division in the 20 LGAs in the state respectively. ”
In another development, a medical doctor working with the state government has been arrested.
The suspect, Usman Sadiq Yelwa, was working with the General Hospital, Misau, in Misau Local Government Area of the state before his arrest.
The State NSCDC Commandant said that the suspect was arrested based on credible intelligence.
The suspect, who confessed to being an impostor, will be charged to court for the established offence accordingly, the commandant added.
