Vigilante Allegedly Murders Okada Rider To Fund Wedding

It was further learnt that the suspect had applied to join the army before the alleged act.

Minna, Niger State– A self-proclaimed vigilante, Usman Yahaya Mohammed, has allegedly killed an Okada rider and stole his motorcycle, all with the alleged intention of raising funds for his upcoming wedding.

The incident occurred on the night of Friday, September 29, 2023, along the bypass on Eppa road in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to local resident Idris Abubakar, who witnessed the aftermath of the gruesome crime, Mohammed, the suspect, murdered the commercial motorcyclist and left his lifeless body at the scene.

It was gathered that the victim’s body was discovered on Monday morning. However, luck appeared to have deserted the alleged perpetrator when his mobile phone inadvertently fell at the crime scene, providing a crucial clue for investigators.

“The suspect slaughtered the bike man on Friday, but luck ran out on him when his phone fell at the scene. The corpse was found on Monday morning. The suspect’s wedding is in one month’s time. His name is Usman Yahaya,” Abubakar narrated.

It was further learnt that the suspect had applied to join the army before the alleged act.

The spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident and the arrest of Usman Yahaya Mohammed.

The suspect reportedly confessed to the heinous crime during police interrogation and they were able to recover a Bajaj motorcycle that was stolen from the deceased and was found in an uncompleted building.
