“We Are Proud Of You” – Senate President Akpabio Commends Saliu Mustapha’s Multi-Billion Naira Empowerment Initiative In Kwara Central
Represented by Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin, Akpabio described Mustapha as a dedicated lawmaker committed to the welfare of his people.
Ilorin, Kwara State – Senate President Godswill Akpabio has commended Senator Saliu Mustapha for his massive empowerment program, which has benefited over 3,000 constituents in Kwara Central.
Represented by Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin, Akpabio described Mustapha as a dedicated lawmaker committed to the welfare of his people.
The event, held on Friday at the Lower Niger River Basin in Ilorin, featured the distribution of tricycles, Sienna vehicles, sewing machines, cows, tractors, food items, refrigerators, and more.
The initiative aims to boost agriculture, entrepreneurship, and human capital development in the region.
Speaking at the event, Senator Barau praised Mustapha’s efforts, calling him “a serious and industrious man” who consistently advocates for Kwara in the Senate. “All the time he speaks on the Senate floor, it’s about Kwara,” he said.
The empowerment program aligns with the federal government’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, focusing on food security and economic development.
Barau also announced his personal contribution of 200 sewing machines to support Mustapha’s initiative.
Senator Mustapha, a former deputy chairman of a political party, was recognized for his leadership and deep understanding of Nigeria’s challenges. “He knows the problems we face and is taking steps to address them,” Barau noted.
The initiative reinforces Mustapha’s commitment to empowering his constituents and supporting sustainable economic growth in Kwara Central.
Speaking at the program, senator Saliu who is also the chairman of agriculture at the red chamber, disclosed that his goal is to create long-term, sustainable opportunities for his people.
He said that he was inspired to see women participating in these training programs, proving that they are capable of excelling in traditionally male-dominated fields. These women are now fully trained to install, repair, and maintain solar energy systems.
According to the senator, “As we gather here, I want to emphasise that our commitment to education remains unwavering. We have decided that our scholarship program will now cover the entire duration of a student’s studies, whether it is a four-year, five-year, or six-year program. This ensures that our youth can complete their education without financial burdens.
He said, “In line with our commitment to skills development, we have initiated training programs in various fields, including solar panel installation and maintenance. I was particularly inspired to see women participating in these training programs, proving that they are capable of excelling in traditionally male-dominated fields. These women are now fully trained to install, repair, and maintain solar energy systems.
“Our empowerment initiatives extend beyond education and skills training. We have provided resources for businesses, including cassava processing plants, tricycles for transportation, and livestock for those in the cattle trade.
Senator Mustpha said instead of merely giving out cash, he’s providing sustainable means for people to grow their businesses.
He noted that special training has been conducted to ensure beneficiaries can reinvest and expand their enterprises.
“Today’s event is a symbolic launch of what we aim to achieve. Our goal is to create long-term, sustainable opportunities for our people. We have carefully selected beneficiaries who have undergone training and are ready to apply their skills and resources productively. This is not just a political gathering; it is a commitment to real empowerment and progress for our community.
“We appreciate everyone who has supported these initiatives, and we look forward to continued collaboration to ensure that our people thrive in all aspects of life. Thank you all for being here today, and let us continue working together for a brighter future,” he said.
He, however, commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his tremendous efforts in the state and also commended President Bola Tinubu for his Renewed Hope agenda.
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, applauded the multi-billion naira empowerment programs.
“The reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu in terms of food security are working.
“We have seen and felt that food is not only available, but gradually becoming more affordable. This demonstrates the President’s commitment to food security. Senator Mustapha has kept me and all of us on our toes, ensuring we align with Mr. President’s aspirations,” he added.
