Two Church Members Drown In Ogun River While Swimming

The bodies were transferred to IFO General Hospital for autopsy procedures

Two men have reportedly drowned while swimming in a river in Itori, Ogun State.

The victims, along with five other people travelled from Lagos to attend an inauguration event at Cherubim and Seraphim Church Onikoko in Itori, which took place on Sunday, August 27, 2023.

The incident occurred on Monday, August 28, when the victims entered the water for a swim, unaware of the potential dangers.

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, said that a church member named Adebayo Adeosun reported the incident to the police around 6:30 PM on Monday.

Adeosun said that the boys numbering seven who came from Lagos on the 27th of August for the church inauguration, left the church premises to swim, and got drowned in the process.

The image maker identified the two victims as Femi Akinola, aged 32, from Odo Eran Itire in Lagos State, and Tunde Falade, aged 35, from Kola Alagbado, also in Lagos.

Their bodies were recovered from the river and rushed to the Health Center in Itori, where a medical professional declared them deceased.

The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Olayemi Jacob, who led his team to investigate the scene said preliminary findings indicated no signs of foul play or violence.

Subsequently, the bodies were transferred to IFO General Hospital for autopsy procedures and have been placed in the hospital’s morgue.
