Train Crushes 50-Year-Old Man To Death In Lagos

The deceased’s sister, whose identity remains unknown, told the police she received a call around 9 a.m., informing her that her elder brother had been tragically hit by a moving train.

Ikeja, Lagos State- A 50-year-old man, identified as Emmanuel, was crushed to death by a train in the Oshodi area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred near the Arena Shopping Mall, in Oshodi.

The deceased’s sister, whose identity remains unknown, told the police she received a call around 9 a.m., informing her that her elder brother had been tragically hit by a moving train.

In a statement, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the Mosafejo Division was alerted to the incident at about 1:33 p.m. A team of detectives was promptly dispatched to the scene.

“The scene was visited and photographed by a team of detectives,” Hundeyin said, adding, “The corpse was evacuated to a public morgue for autopsy.”

Hundeyin confirmed that the case has been transferred to the Railway Police Command in Ebute Metta for further investigation.

Details surrounding the accident remain unclear, but a similar incident occurred in August in the Mushin area, where a man was fatally struck by a moving train.

The accident reportedly took place around 6 p.m., as the victim walked along the Cappa railway tracks.

According to a statement by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, signed by its spokesman Nosa Okunbor, the victim was found dead at the scene, having suffered severe injuries from the collision.

Okunbor added that the man died instantly due to the force of the impact.
