Three Suspects Remanded For Beheading Motorcyclist In Kwara

An investigation has uncovered that Samuel and Tiozina allegedly lured motorcyclist Raufu Akanno by hiring his services for N10,000, offering an upfront payment of N5,000, to transport them to and from the Olooru area.

Ilorin, Kwara State – A magistrates’ court in Ilorin has ordered the remand of three suspects accused of murdering a commercial motorcyclist and stealing his motorcycle in a gruesome incident at Asunnara village.

The suspects, identified as Peter Samuel, Jeremiah Tiozina, and Sunday Agbenke, were arraigned on charges of criminal conspiracy, theft, and the unlawful removal of human parts.

According to the police’s First Information Report, the crime came to light when the headless body of the victim, a young man, was discovered in a pool of blood around 2 a.m. at a riverbank in Asunnara.

Police operatives recovered the victim’s remains alongside two android phones, one of which allegedly belonged to a suspect. Investigators believe the phones could provide crucial leads in the ongoing case.

Prosecutors informed the court that the suspects were arrested following a swift investigation that linked them to the crime scene.

During the journey, Samuel reportedly asked Akanno to stop, claiming his cap had fallen off. Unbeknownst to the motorcyclist, this was a ploy to rob him of his motorcycle.

The suspects allegedly struck Akanno with a stick, fatally injuring him, and subsequently decapitated him before fleeing with his motorcycle.

Meanwhile, prosecutor Nasir Yusuf requested the court to remand the suspects.

Magistrate Saidu, presiding over the case, ordered their remand at the Oke Kura Federal Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter to December 23, 2024.
