The Police Constable who came home (Maiduguri) on permission, was stabbed with a sharp object on his back by his assailants.
“We understand there was an altercation between the hoodlums and the constable before he was stabbed,” Yusufu said.
“On receipt of a distress call from the area, the police patrol team responded and rescued the victim to Maiduguri specialist hospital for treatment where he was later certified dead.
“Police undercover operatives obtained a video clip of the incident from a Good Samaritan which led to the arrest of the suspects,” he added.
The CP said a proper investigation would be conducted before the suspects are charged to court.
Aside from the killing, the commissioner said operatives also arrested a syndicate of ladies using headgear (hijab) to hide stolen food items and consumables. He said the suspects specialised in shop theft, looting and lifting of items, in collaboration with their tricycle rider, who usually parked and conveyed the stolen items.
He urged residents to activate neighbourhood watch, to stem growing criminal activities in the state, particularly in Maiduguri. He also advised people to use the Nigeria police Rescue-me Apps by downloading it on Google Playstore or call phone number 08130579204 for help.
