Suspected Herdsmen Kill Two Soldiers, Seven Villagers In Benue

Makurdi, Benue State- Suspected herdsmen on Tuesday, invaded the Eguma community in Agatu Local Government Area, and killed two soldiers and seven villagers including the village head of Eguma community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue state.

Audu Sule, a former lawmaker who represented Agatu in the Benue State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2019, reported that the attack began around 3 PM.

Channels Television reports that, according to Sule, military personnel stationed at his village in Ogwule, just a few meters away, responded to a distress call from Eguma village.

However, two soldiers were killed by the suspended herdsmen, along with the head of Eguma village and six others, bringing the casualty figures to nine.

Sule noted that the attack was the fourth on Eguma and Ogwule villages in the Agatu Local Government Area in the last month, lamenting the security threats his people faced daily.

He added that the military intervention led to a gun battle with the suspected herdsmen who fled, after nine persons, including two soldiers, were killed.
