Six Suspects Arrested In Yobe For Alleged Theft, Burglary

The suspects were found in possession of 13 tricycle tires, 6 windshields, 4 crates of empty Coca-Cola bottles, 2 bicycles and 1 toolbox.

Damaturu, Yobe State – The Yobe State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with a series of thefts, criminal trespass, and burglary incidents in Damaturu, the state capital.

DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, spokesperson for the Yobe Police Command, announced the arrests in a statement released on Tuesday.

He stated that Commissioner of Police Garba Ahmed directed targeted operations across the city, responding to community concerns about security and the rise in petty crimes.

The statement read, “On November 10, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., we received a distress call from Malam Musa Alh Audu, a resident of Nayi-Nawa ward, reporting the theft of six tires and five windshields from tricycles parked near his premises. The incident, which occurred around 5:40 a.m. on November 9, is part of a worrying pattern of early morning thefts in the area.

Abdulkarim explained that the suspects face charges of theft, criminal trespass, and burglary and that investigations are ongoing to recover the stolen items and uncover potential accomplices.

“‘A’ Divisional Police Station swiftly responded, apprehending six syndicate members: Abubakar Ahmed, 19, of Hausary Ward, Hassan Musa, 19, of State Lowcost, Shayibu Adamu, 24, of Tashan Kurma, Ahmes Ismail, 22, of Nayinawa Ward, Babagana Lawan, 25, of Forestry, Bindigari Ward and Gambo Daiyyabu, 52, of Nayinawa Ward, all in Damaturu.

“The suspects were found in possession of 13 tricycle tires, 6 windshields, 4 crates of empty Coca-Cola bottles, 2 bicycles and 1 toolbox.

He noted that the suspects confessed to the crime and are cooperating with the investigation.

“CP Garba Ahmed commended the resilience of Yobe residents in ensuring security and safety. He urged everyone to continue reporting suspicious activities and providing credible information to the nearest police station. Stay informed and stay safe,” he added.
