Six Abducted UNIJOS Students Regains Freedom

The Plateau State Police Command says it has  rescued six out of the seven students of the University of Jos kidnapped by gunmen on Monday.

DSP Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Jos.

According to Alabo, five of the students were rescued, while one escaped from the kidnappers’ den unharmed.

”The police command is pleased to announce to the general public that six of the seven victims who were kidnapped on June 13, have regained their freedom.

”The command swung into action immediately after the incident was reported, and worked tirelessly in collaboration with its Anti-Kidnapping unit, family members of the victims, and the community to secure the release of the victims.

It was reported earlier that the gunmen invaded the hostel and abducted the students while they were reading for the ongoing examinations.

It was learnt that after the kidnappers contacted the victims’ families for ransom, five out of the seven students have been released following the payment of the money agreed upon.

Meanwhile, a source said that the money was delivered by one of the parents who volunteered. The source added that after the money was collected, the kidnappers seized the phone of the ransom-bearing parent.
