Senator Mustapha’s Scholarship Scheme Bears Fruit As 103 Kwara Indigent Students Matriculate At UNILORIN

The 103 students are part of the 300 indigent students awarded full scholarships by the Senator for the current academic session, cutting across communities within Kwara Central.

Ilorin, Kwara State– Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, has expressed excitement over the successful matriculation of 103 beneficiaries of his scholarship scheme at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), describing the development as a major milestone in his commitment to education and youth empowerment.

The 103 students are part of the 300 indigent students awarded full scholarships by the Senator for the current academic session, cutting across communities within Kwara Central.

In a statement issued by his media assistant, Nasif Sholagberu, Senator Mustapha said the formal admission of the beneficiaries into the university further strengthened his resolve to continue investing in education and human capital development.

According to him, the matriculation marked the fulfillment of a promise to provide opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds who might otherwise be denied access to higher education due to financial hardship.

He congratulated the students on their successful matriculation and urged them to remain focused, disciplined and committed to academic excellence, stressing that the scholarship was both an opportunity and a responsibility.

Speaking shortly after the matriculation ceremony, the Dean of Student Affairs, University of Ilorin, Dr. Morenikeji Alex Akanmu, commended Senator Mustapha for what he described as a rare and impactful intervention in the education sector.

Dr. Akanmu noted that the scholarship programme had opened doors for many students who would have struggled to secure university education, urging the beneficiaries to justify the investment by remaining dedicated to their studies and upholding good conduct.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the Scholarship Committee, Comrade Ahmed Yakub Ishowo, congratulated the students and encouraged them to maximise the opportunity, describing the programme as a lifeline for indigent families across the senatorial district.

Some of the beneficiaries also expressed gratitude to the lawmaker, pledging to make him proud through academic excellence.

One of them, Abdulhamid Abdulbasit, a student of Agriculture from Ilorin West Local Government Area, described the scholarship as a dream come true, saying it had lifted a huge financial burden off his family.

Similarly, Olohunlelesan Kabirah, a Zoology student from Asa Local Government Area, thanked Senator Mustapha for restoring hope to indigent students, promising to remain committed to her studies and uphold the values expected of a scholarship beneficiary.

The scholarship scheme is one of several education-focused interventions by Senator Mustapha aimed at expanding access to learning and reducing the impact of poverty on young people in Kwara Central.
