Senator Mustapha Sponsors Bill to Establish Federal Agricultural Extension and Innovation Centre

Abuja, Nigeria– A Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Saliu Mustapha, has sponsored a bill seeking to establish a Federal Agricultural Extension and Innovation Centre.
The lawmaker disclosed in a statement shared via his official Facebook page that the proposed legislation, titled Federal Agricultural Extension and Innovation Centre (Establishment) Bill, 2025 (SB. 984), has successfully passed its First Reading on the floor of the Senate of Nigeria during plenary on Wednesday.
According to Senator Mustapha, the bill is designed to address longstanding gaps in agricultural extension services across the country by improving farmer support systems and promoting innovation in modern agricultural practices.
He noted that the proposed centre would play a critical role in boosting productivity, enhancing knowledge transfer to farmers, and supporting sustainable agricultural development nationwide.
The bill is expected to proceed to its Second Reading, where lawmakers will debate its general principles and assess its overall merits.
Expressing optimism about the proposal, Senator Mustapha said he looks forward to engaging constructively with his colleagues to ensure the smooth consideration and eventual passage of the bill, which he described as vital to Nigeria’s food security and economic growth.
