Rescued Chibok Girl Appeals For Reunion With Boko Haram Husband

Mary’s rescue contributes to the total number of rescued Chibok schoolgirls in 2023

Mary Nkeki, a 27-year-old Chibok girl who was recently rescued by the Nigerian Army, has expressed her heartfelt wish to be reunited with her husband, Mallam Adamu, a former Boko Haram member who has since repented.

Nkeki was among the more than 200 students abducted by Boko Haram insurgents in 2014 from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok.

Nkeki was rescued On August 14, 2023, by troops from the 81 Nigerian Army Battalion in Dikwa, a border community with Cameroon. She was subsequently handed over to the Borno State Commissioner of Women Affairs, Zuwaira Gambo, at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri on Monday, August 21.

According to the Theatre Commander OPHK, Maj-Gen. Gold Chibuisi: “Mary was rescued by our troops, while one Adamu; her husband surrendered to Army last week in the border areas of Cameroon.”

Nkeki explained that she had given birth to two babies with her husband, but tragically, they succumbed to severe acute malnutrition (SAM) while they were in the Gulumba Forest of Bama local council.

She stated that despite her rescue, she wanted to be reunited with her husband, Adamu, who had already surrendered last week in Dikwa.

“As for marriage, my husband is still alive, and I am still in love with him. I don’t know whether he is still in Dikwa or they brought him to Maiduguri, but I will love to be reunited with him if it will be possible,” she said.

Mary’s rescue contributes to the total number of rescued Chibok schoolgirls in 2023, now reaching a total of 16.
