President Buhari Suspends Adamawa REC, Hudu Yunusa Ari

The President also directed the immediate investigation and prosecution, if found liable

The embattled Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Hudu Yunusa Ari, in Adamawa State has been suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Buhari approved the immediate suspension of the REC from office in Adamawa State pending the completion of an investigation by the Inspector General of Police on the conduct/actions of the REC during the Supplementary election in Adamawa State.

Ari’s suspension was made known in a press release issued by Willie Bassey, Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The President also directed the immediate investigation and prosecution, if found liable, of Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari, by the Inspector General of Police.

Also, the President has directed an investigation by the Inspector General of Police, Director-General of the Department of State Services, and the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, of the role of their officers in aiding and abetting the conduct/actions of Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari and if found culpable, appropriate disciplinary actions, are to be meted out to them.

It would be recalled that on Sunday, April 16 Ari caused a stirHudu Yunusa Ari when he unilaterally announced APC’s guber candidate in the state supplementary election, Aishatu Dahiru, winner of the election. His announcement was immediately voided by INEC headquarters.
