Police Recover 8 Unexploded Ordnance In Maiduguri, Reassure Public Of Safety

Maiduguri, Borno State — The Borno State Police Command has recovered eight unexploded ordnance (UXOs) in separate locations across Maiduguri, calming fears among residents.
However, the police authorities reinforcing their commitment to public safety.
In a statement released on Saturday, ASP Grace Michael, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the command, confirmed the successful operations conducted by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Base 13 team.
The recoveries, which took place on November 22, 2024, involved six projectiles, an unexploded mortar bomb, and a hand grenade.
She explained that the first incident was reported at 8:43 a.m. in the Dala-Abuja Talakawa area, where suspicious objects were spotted near an uncompleted building.
According to her, acting promptly, the EOD-CBRN team recovered and safely relocated the items to a secure site.

She also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious items or activities to security agencies.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the ordnance were displaced and washed ashore by recent devastating floods in the state.
“The police command has since conducted Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORE) training for residents of both communities, educating them on safety measures.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety.
