Eight Killed As Commercial Vehicles Hit Landmines In Borno 

Two vehicles, an Izuzu van and a lorry, stepped on the bomb and nearly all the passengers were feared dead.

Maiduguri, Borno State– No fewer than eight people are feared dead, and several others sustained varying degrees of injuries after two commercial vehicles detonated landmines.

It was gathered that the two vehicles, reportedly carrying passengers and goods, were travelling along the Ngala-Dikwa road, a region already known for security challenges.

According to Daily Trust, the incident occurred around 10:30 am on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, around Kinewba village in Ngala

The landmine attack reportedly happened about 15 kilometers away from Maiduguri, the state capital.

A security source disclosed that the two vehicles involved in the incident were damaged beyond repairs.

“The vehicles left Ngala around 900:am while the incident occurred about 15 kilometers away. Eight civilians feared dead including two children, and several others were critically wounded in the landmine blast,” he said.
