Police Raids Cultists’ Hideout, Arrests Six In Akwa Ibom

Operatives also recovered two bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

Uyo, Akwa Ibom State — Operatives from the Akwa Ibom Police Command have  raided a notorious criminal hideout in the Afaha Offiong community, located in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.

The operation led to the arrest of six persons suspected of being cultists and drug dealers.

This was stated in a release on Monday. The spokesperson for the command, ASP Timfon John, disclosed that two bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp, cocaine, and various cocktail concoctions were recovered during the raid.

The statement read, “The Akwa Ibom State Police Command in it’s sustained efforts towards making the state safe, secure and uncomfortable for criminals and their elements has raided a criminal hideout in Afaha Offiong community in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.

“The raid was carried out by the Command’s operatives who acted following directives of the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom, CP Waheed Ayilara upon intelligence report available at the Command’s disposal about nefarious activities in a section of the Community.

“Upon mobilization of operatives to the community, the efforts yielded quick results leading to the arrest of six male persons suspected to be cultists and drug dealers, namely Kufre Godwin Okon, Uko Monday Edet, Cyril Micheal, Gabriel Effiong, Joseph Effiong Okon, Udofia Emmanuel Udofia.

“Operatives also recovered two bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, substances suspected to be cocaine and some cocktail concoctions.

The image maker added that investigation is ongoing as efforts are in place to arrest fleeing members of the syndicate.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Waheed Ayilara has reassured Akwa Ibomites of the command’s unwavering commitment to rid the state of criminal elements.

“He urged them to always report any suspicious movements or suspicious persons to the nearest police Station as this will help the Police cultivate and act on the information towards keeping the State safe and secured.”
