Police Officer Killed By Motorcycle Riders In Lagos Attack

In a tragic incident that unfolded on Friday, August 12, at the heart of Lagos State, chaos erupted as a group of motorcycle riders launched a deadly assault on a police team from the Iponri Divisional Police Station.

According to reports, the ill-fated officers had been dispatched to the Ijora Olopa area to enforce the recently imposed restriction order on Okada riders by the Lagos State government.

However, the situation took a tragic turn when a group of assailants, reportedly armed with a chilling assortment of dangerous weapons including cutlasses, clubs, and charms, launched a brutal attack on the police team. The officers found themselves outnumbered and confronted by the aggressive mob, leading to a devastating clash that resulted in the loss of at least one officer’s life

The assailants attacked the policemen and also tried to burn the operation van of the policemen but they were prevented by the police response team of Rapid Response Squad and other policemen from the divisions deployed to the scene to prevent further breakdown of law and order at the area.

Confirming the distressing incident, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said that regrettably, one of the two police officers who had sustained severe injuries during the violent attack has since succumbed to their injuries.

He, however, said, some of the riders have been arrested and normalcy has been restored at the scene.
