Police Arrest Woman, Recover Rocket Launcher, Ammunition In Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command have recovered a rocket launcher that had been left behind by armed bandits during their incursion into Dan-Umaru Village, in the Bena District of Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area within the state.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, held in Birnin Kebbi, the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Titus Musa, disclosed to the journalists about the development, saying that the rocket launcher left behind by the armed bandits was recovered in the aftermath of their activities in the region.

“Unknown armed bandits invaded Dan-Umaru Village, Bena District of Danko-Wasagu LGA. On receipt of the report, a combined team of policemen from the Dan-Umaru police division, vigilante, swiftly responded and engaged the bandits in a gun duel,” the CP stated.

“The team successfully repelled the attack and recovered one rocket launcher, the suspected armed bandits escaped with various degrees of gunshot wounds,”

CP Musa also disclosed that illegal weapons were recovered from four suspected armed robbers namely: Michael Yunusa, Abu Yayi Alhaji, Bomboy Dan Karami, and Danjuma Ibrahim.

“The suspects conspired with each other in possession of locally made revolver guns and prohibited live ammunition; they used the weapons to attack the duo of Abubakar Alhaji Dikko ‘m’ of Ribah and Umar Garba ‘m’ of Danko/Wasagu LGA and robbed them of three motorcycles valued at about N800,000. The investigation has already been completed and suspects charged to court for prosecution,”

“Similarly, one Hauwa Sulieman of Babbar Dogo village of Maru LGA of Zamfara State was also arrested inpossession of Five Hundred and sixty six (566) rounds of 7. 62×39mm live ammunition. The case is under investigation,”

The police boss said the woman was arrested at the axis area of the same Danko-Wasagu LGA on 24th July 2023.

In an interview with a journalist at the police Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, the woman said;

“It was one woman who asked me to help her and collect the message on her behalf,. I opened the bag I saw live ammunition, on reaching the Army checkpoint at Danko-Wasagu LGA, I went to them and explained and handed it over to them, she narrated,”

“It is on fair for me to allow this ammunition to be used in taking human lives, because as a good Muslim what should I tell Almighty Allah on the day of judgement. I have no option than to report

“After questioning and interrogating me by the military personnel, they arrested me and later handed me over to police,”

“I was aware that being in possession of live ammunition is an offence, that’s why I complained to military personnel on duty at the above mentioned place,” she lamented.

The Commissioner assured the IGP, the Kebbi State government, and the entire state’s people that the officers and men of the command under his watch will not relent in their effort to ensure that the state and its environs are free from any form of criminality.

He urged people across the state to assist the police and other sister agencies in volunteering vital information about any suspicious movement or act.

“Because it is by way of volunteering information, we are able to exercise our own duties,” he added.
