Police Arrest Thug Caught On Video Assaulting Females Driver Over Car Battery Theft In Lagos

Ikeja, Lagos State – The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a thug identified as Friday Onu, who was caught on camera assaulting a female comercial driver during an attempted car battery theft along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, April 7, near the Oriental Hotel area, quickly drew outrage after a video of the assault went viral on social media.
The victim, Mrs Yetunde Amole, was seen resisting the theft when Onu physically attacked her.
In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police confirmed Onu’s arrest by officers of the Maroko Division shortly after the incident.
“The Lagos State Police Command is aware of a viral video circulating on social media, depicting the assault of one Yetunde Amole by a suspected thug near the Oriental Hotel area in Lagos,” the statement read.
“The Command condemns this act in the strongest terms and wishes to update the public on the actions already taken.”
Hundeyin said Onu fell ill in police custody and was subsequently transferred to Falomo Police Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment under close watch.
Preparations for his arraignment were already underway before the medical emergency, according to the police.
The Command assured the public that justice will be served and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property in the state.
“The Lagos State Police Command assures the public that justice will be served. The suspect will be charged in a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as police medical professionals declare him fit to stand trial.
“The Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of all residents and urges the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement authorities.
” We also commend Ms. Amole for her bravery and assure her and all victims of crime that their cases will be thoroughly pursued to ensure justice is served in all cases,”Hundeyin added.
