Police Arrest Seven Nigerian Suspects For Alleged Kidnapping Of Nigerian Businessman In South Africa

Money that was allegedly withdrawn from the businessman’s bank account has also been recovered.

Johannesburg, South Africa– The South African Police Service’s (SAP) anti-kidnapping task team has arrested seven suspected kidnappers and rescued a  Nigerian businessman in Johannesburg.

It was gathered that the 48-year-old man was kidnapped on Wednesday, 10 January 2024 in Fordsburg, Johannesburg.

In a statement by Police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said the victim was rescued on Thursday evening, January 11.

The statement read: “In less than 24 hours, the SAPS team traced the victim and suspects to a lodge in Ferndale, Randburg on Thursday evening.

“Six vehicles used by the suspects have been seized and impounded for further investigation. Money that was allegedly withdrawn from the businessman’s bank account has also been recovered.

“In the last two years, the anti-kidnapping task team has arrested at least 300 suspects where victims were kidnapped for ransom payments.”
