Police Arrest Robbery Suspect In Bauchi

The suspect, Munkailu Haruna, and his accomplice posed as passengers and boarded the victim’s motorcycle.

An armed robber suspect identified as Munkailu Haruna, has been arrested by police in Bauchi State for allegedly attacking a commercial motorcycle rider with an iron rod before bolting with his bike in Jama’are Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the suspect, Munkailu Haruna, 22, from Gandiyel Village Itas Gadau LGA, and one now at large used an iron rod to hit the victim on the head and snatched his motorcycle.

The Bauchi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, in a statement made available to journalists in Bauchi, said the suspect, Munkailu Haruna, and his accomplice posed as passengers and boarded the victim’s motorcycle.

“On 14/07/2023 at about 0700hrs one Saleh Ahmadu ‘m’ of Ayas village Jama’are LGA a commercial motorcyclist reported that on 13/07/2023 at about 2030hrs, two unknown persons boarded his unregistered motorcycle from Jama’are town to Arabic teachers college Jama’are located in an outskirt of Jama’are,” the statement read.

“On reaching the school, they used an iron rod to hit him on the head and snatched his motorcycle. He raised an alarm and people came to his rescue. In the process, the suspects abandoned the motorcycle and escaped.

“On receipt of the report, a team of policemen led by the DPO moved to the scene. One Munkailu Haruna ‘m’ aged 22yrs of Gandiyel village Itas Gadau LGA was arrested.”

Exhibits recovered from the suspect include one knife, one iron rod used in perpetrating the heinous crime and a bag was recovered from the suspect.

He said an investigation is in progress, and further development would be communicated in due course.
