The Edo State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers aged between 28 and 36 years.

The suspects were identified as Christopher Aiyegbeni, 29; Matthew Osayande, 32; Uyi Destiny, 27; Bankole Faz, 35; and Ayemen Okojie, 32.

In a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor said that the suspects were arrested on December 16 following an intelligence report about some suspected kidnappers who invaded Ogoja Camp, known as Ford Camp in Kamafua- ii community with the intention to kidnap one of the heads of the camp.

Mr Nwanbuzor said the suspects on reaching the camp started shooting sporadically but were arrested with the collaboration of vigilante groups from the Kamafua- ii community in Uhunmwode Local Government Area, Edo State.
One double-barrel gun, one single-barrel gun,  and two pump-action guns with cartridges were recovered from them, Nwanbuzor said.

The commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed A. Dankwara, commended the operatives, the community and the vigilante’s group over their effort in arresting the kidnappers.

He, however, urged residents of the state to give helpful information to the police in the campaign against criminals and their activities in the state.
