A pharmacist was robbed and attacked with machetes by armed robbers near Adisa Bridge, in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, on the Ibadan/Oyo New Expressway.

Mrs Ajayi, aged 49, was assaulted on Monday, September 18, while returning from the market.

While recuperating in her hospital bed at Wabilahi Taofeek Maternity Clinic in Isale Awero, Moniya, Mrs Ajayi recounted to Punch that her attack occurred around 6:30 p.m.

She explained that two young men on a motorcycle approached her shortly after she had alighted from a commercial vehicle that had broken down.

She said, “One was on the bike, while the second was very close to me, asking me to bring all the money with me. I didn’t even know that they were robbers until he brought out cutlasses and inflicted machete cut injuries on me.

“I just went to the market to get some goods for my customers. They collected everything. The one on the motorcycle told him to kill me if I wasn’t ready to cooperate. Before I say anything, he brought out the cutlass and inflicted injuries on me.

“I am a pharmacist. All the medicines inside my bag and other valuables were forcefully taken away.”

A doctor at the hospital stated that his examination of the victim’s wounds indicated that the robbers had a clear intention to fatally harm her.
