Osun-Kwara Kidnapping, One Dead, Four Freed Following N7m Ransom Payment

One abducted victim died within a kidnappers‘ hideout in Osun State, while four other victims regained their freedom after allegedly facilitated by the payment of an N7 million ransom.

Earlier, Afrika Eyes provided a report stating that a respected traditional chief, Mrs Grace Adepoju (recognized as the Iyalode of Oyan) from Osun State, along with her surveyor and a group of four persons, had embarked on a business-related trip to Agbamu.

Unfortunately, while they were on their way back around 6:30 pm on the preceding Monday, which was August 21, they encountered an attack and were subsequently abducted at Aworo, a community on a border between Osun and Kwara states.

In the early hours of Tuesday, Chief Adepoju successfully escaped from the abductors. However, others are still held captive in the kidnappers’ hideout. Local hunters, Amotekun Corps operatives, and the police are currently collaborating to make efforts towards their liberation.

While conducting the search, the police team from Kwara State arrested two suspects who were suspected of being informants for the kidnappers, they were discovered making phone calls inside the bush and were arrested and taken into custody by the police team from Kwara State.

A source close to one of the victims, who chose to remain anonymous, disclosed that four of the victims were set free in a community located in Kwara State on Sunday, August 27th after payment of N7m.

“Regrettably, one of the victims met their demise while held captive by the abductors, four other victims were freed in a bush within a community in Kwara State during the early hours of Sunday after the abductors had obtained a ransom of N7 million.”

Kehinde Adeleke, the spokesperson for the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, refrained from commenting on the ransom payment aspect but confirmed the release of four abductees.

“Four of the victims have been released, but sadly, one lost their life while being held by the kidnappers. In connection with the incident, three suspects have been apprehended.”
