Osun APC Dismisses Aregbesola Faction’s Exit, Says ‘We Won’t Miss Them’
APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi said the faction’s exit held no weight.
Osogbo, Osun State- The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the departure of the Omoluabi Progressives, a faction loyal to former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, labeling it as inconsequential.
The Omoluabi Progressives, associated with Aregbesola, who also served as Minister of the Interior, announced their decision to leave the APC, citing alleged ostracism, suspension, and unfair treatment of members.
In a statement issued on Monday in Osogbo, APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi said the faction’s exit held no weight, claiming the group had effectively severed ties with the party since the 2022 governorship election.
“In the first instance, the kernel of the statement by the dissidents’ group amounted to a confused pack of rudderless political actors… many of them have either been expelled or suspended from the party,” Olabisi said.
He questioned the rationale behind the group’s resignation announcement, describing it as “superfluous.”
“How would any rational human being who has been suspended or expelled announce his resignation to the whole world again? Is that not an example of superfluity?” he asked.
The party spokesperson added that the APC would be relieved by the exit of the faction, which he described as “political irritants and deviants.”
Olabisi also criticised the group for what he called a lack of respect for party elders and benefactors, stating, “The ambulatory Omoluabi Progressives believe they are more progressive in Nigeria than the real progenitors of the progressive party.”
