One Dead, Another Injured As Vehicle In Benue Governor’s Convoy Crashes

Makurdi, Benue State — A pilot vehicle in the convoy of Governor Hyacinth Alia reportedly crashed on Sunday in Vandeikya Local Government Area, Benue State, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to another.

The incident occurred on a dusty road in Ihugh while Governor Alia, a native of the area, was in his hometown for the Christmas celebration.

It was gathered that the vehicle’s driver lost control due to reduced visibility caused by dust.

However, this led to the fatal crash, claiming the life of one man and leaving another with injuries.

Meanwhile, the identity of the victims remains unknown, and there has been no official statement from the state government.

Tribune reports that a source said “The governor’s convoy was traveling along an untarred road when one of the vehicles veered off course due to poor visibility caused by dust. The vehicle reportedly collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the fatality and injuries.

The governor’s Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, Solomon Iorpev, confirmed the incident but clarified that the vehicle was no longer part of the convoy when the accident occurred.

“The vehicle was alone on a mission when it got involved in an accident caused by dust,” Iorpev explained.

“The road is very dusty, and while trying to avoid an oncoming vehicle, it rammed into a motorcycle, leading to the crash.”

Iorpev expressed regret over the incident but did not provide details about the casualty.
