It was gathered that the suspects allegedly committed crimes which include, kidnapping, vandalism, theft, burglary and cultism.
Parading the suspects at the headquarters of the corps in Akure, the state capital on Monday, the Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the suspects were arrested within two weeks of the operation of men of the corps.
According to him, out of the 45 suspects, seven were already in court but they would be needed to throw light on the ongoing investigation. He said a leave of the court was sought to allow the corps to have them for a few more days which was granted, saying that was why they were among those paraded.
“Today (Monday), we are parading 45 suspected criminals who have been engaging in various acts of criminal activities within the state. Our men have been on constant 24-hour patrol in the 18 LGs of Ondo State and a total of 45 suspected criminals have been arrested in the last two weeks.
“Of particular note is the set of criminals that engaged in vandalisation of electricity transformers. Fate caught up with one of them who unfortunately while cutting the cable, power supply came and burnt half of his body. We quickly arrested him after a lot of treatment. The moment the thing happened, he was rushed to three different hospitals, and when they got wind of the fact that detectives from the Ondo State Network Security were on their trail, they moved him out of Akure.
“We also trailed him to the location and brought him in a very terrible state, he was to be killed so that he would not reveal the sponsors. We had to revive him, brought him to the health facility of the corps and we spent a lot of money to make him come back to life. He was able to tell us about nine other members of the gang including their godfather who is right now on the run. We are on the trail of their godfather.”
Adeleye added that among the remaining 44 suspected criminals was one Jubril, a kidnap suspect, who was earlier arrested for kidnapping but was released on bail and was later arrested barely 48 hours after his release for the same crime.
