Nigerian Army Officers Allegedly Attack Lagos Sanitation Corps In Yaba, KAI Officer Left Bleeding

Ikeja, Lagos State– Officers of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) were allegedly attacked by Nigerian Army personnel while performing their duties in the Yaba area of Lagos.

The confrontation left one KAI officer severely injured, as shown in a troubling video circulating online, where the officer was seen lying on the ground, bleeding.

According to reports, the army personnel were allegedly acting on orders from Major Adebiyi and Captain Gowon.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, strongly condemned the attack, stating that it was unprovoked. “Our officers were lawfully engaged in their duties when they were subjected to this brutal act,” Wahab said.

The Commissioner expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General T. Lagbaja, for his prompt intervention, which helped de-escalate the situation.

Wahab also thanked the Director of Chaplain Services, Lt. Col. T.E. Ogbonyomi, for supporting civil authorities in ensuring the continued operations of the sanitation corps.

Sharing his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), Wahab wrote, “We extend our sincere gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General T. Lagbaja, and the Director of Chaplain Services for their swift and decisive intervention.

Their leadership ensures that KAI officers can carry out their duties without fear of further disruption, reinforcing the principle that military personnel are subject to civil governance within their jurisdictions.”

“We strongly condemn this unwarranted and unacceptable assault on officers executing their lawful duties. Moving forward, such acts will not be tolerated.

“We remain committed to ensuring a #CleanerLagos by upholding safety and sanitation standards across the state,” he added.
