The arms recovered were automatic single-barrel rifles and pump action guns.
Ikeja, Lagos State– The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin-Can Island Command, has intercepted an attempt to smuggle arms and ammunition into the country by a criminal gang.
The interception took place during a routine inspection of cargo containers at the Tin-Can Island port.
In a statement by the Nigeria Customs Service, on Friday, March 15, 2024, stated that the discovery was made during an inspection of consignments imported into the country.
The arms recovered were automatic single-barrel rifles and pump action guns.
Other items recovered were military camouflage, and substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
This comes barely eight months after the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, informed journalists that two suspects had been arrested in connection with the illegal importation of 31 arms of various types at the Tin-Can and Multi-Purpose Terminals (PTML) ports in Lagos.
