Military Declares Wanted Notorious Terrorist Commander Bello Turji ‘A Dead Man Walking’

Turji, who recently issued threats to attack communities in Zamfara State unless his brother and other detainees are freed.

Abuja, NigeriaThe Nigerian military has intensified its resolve to neutralise Bello Turji, a wanted and infamous terrorist commander, labeling him “a dead man walking.”

Turji, who recently issued threats to attack communities in Zamfara State unless his brother and other detainees are freed, has been marked as a priority target by the armed forces.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed the military’s position during a press briefing, ehe commitment to eradicating terrorist threats in the region.

“From January to 31st December 2024, over 1,000 terrorist leaders and commanders, along with their replacements, have been eliminated in our operations,” General Buba stated. “Bello Turji and others who threaten peace and stability can expect a similar fate.”

The military also dismissed claims disputing the precision and effectiveness of recent airstrikes on Lakurawa terrorist enclaves, which reportedly killed numerous insurgents and collaborators.

General Buba described such claims as mere terrorist propaganda aimed at undermining the success of ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

The military’s renewed offensive against Turji and his network comes amidst increasing efforts to restore security in Zamfara State and other conflict-affected areas in Nigeria’s northwest.

Buba said For those disputing the Christmas Day bombing of the Lakurawas terrorist group’s enclaves and killing of their collaborators, “This is what I will say. The first casualty of war is the truth. It is always the first casualty. So it shouldn’t be surprising when terrorists or their collaborators are saying things contrary to what really happened, to what we say.

“It will be insulting to the military to try to work against theirs. Please don’t give in to terrorist propaganda. They will not, and they are not happy that we have bombed them, destroying their ammunition and logistics dumps. Please don’t give in to terrorist propaganda. This is a Nigerian war for Nigerians,” he added.
