Lagos University Dismisses Three Lecturers Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

The sacked lecturers include Mr. Nurudeen Hassan from the Department of Mass Communication, and Mr. Kareem Arigbabu and Mr. Olayinka Uthman from the Department of Arts & Design.

Ikeja, Lagos State — The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has dismissed three of its academic staff members over confirmed cases of sexual harassment, signaling a tough stance against misconduct within the institution.

The sacked lecturers include Mr. Nurudeen Hassan from the Department of Mass Communication, and Mr. Kareem Arigbabu and Mr. Olayinka Uthman from the Department of Arts & Design.

Their dismissal follows an extensive investigation and disciplinary process carried out by the university’s Governing Council.

According to an official memo issued by the institution, titled “DISMISSAL OF STAFF MEMBERS DUE TO SEXUAL HARASSMENT ALLEGATIONS,” the decision was reached in line with Section 5.5.2(v) of the University Senior Staff Conditions of Service.

“The Governing Council of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has taken decisive action in response to allegations of sexual harassment involving three staff members. After a thorough investigation and deliberation, the council has approved the dismissal,” the memo stated.

The dismissals are effective immediately, and the university emphasised that it will continue to uphold the highest standards of discipline and accountability within its academic environment.

“The university takes allegations of sexual harassment seriously, as they compromise the institution’s image and disrupt the academic environment. The Governing Council’s decision reflects the university’s commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful campus community,” the memo added.
