Ikeja, Lagos State– The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Inspector Obic Modestus, the officer captured in a viral video violently assaulting an Uber driver.
The disturbing footage, which circulated widely on social media, shows the officer repeatedly striking the driver in what has been condemned as an unprovoked act of brutality.
Reacting to the incident on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the officer had been summoned by the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) of the command.
“The Police Officer, Inspector Obic Modestus, has been summoned by the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) #LagosPoliceNG. He will be handed over to the Provost Department for appropriate disciplinary measures,” Hundeyin stated.
He further emphasised that the Lagos Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh, would not tolerate any form of incivility or abuse of power.
The Command has assured the public that justice will be served, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against the erring officer.
